From April 1st through April 19, the Washoe County Sheriff's office and other agencies are partnering for the statewide Joining Forces Campaign.

The campaign is aimed to combat distracted driving on Nevada roads.

WCSO says that includes talking or texting on the phone, eating or drinking, adjusting radio or navigation system, as well as interacting with other passengers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2022, 3,308 people were killed in the United States due to distracted driving.

The Sheriff's Office says that on average, sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for about five seconds, which is long enough to cover the length of a football field at 55 miles per hour.
