water year

Unlike last time, Reno finishes the water year with a deficit of .66 inches this go around. Reno did really well the year before with 15.38 inches, but then we only got 3.01 inches in 2020-2021. Every year is different. The water year goes goes from October 1st through September 30th. Last fall was really dry in Reno, and December was dry as well, with a deficit of .7 inches.

water year highlights

Things started to take off by February. Our biggest storm was the first few days of March when nearly 10 inches of snow fell at the Reno Airport. This summer was fairly typical with a slight surplus at the airport from July through September. June was dry though, with a deficit of .41 inches.

south tahoe water year

Our water supply is heavily dependent on our snowpack, but the water year helps to keep our soils green and moist, lowering fire danger. South Tahoe finishes the water year in the red as well, with a deficit of 6.17 inches. February was on Tahoe's side, with 3.54 inches of liquid precipitation.

measurable days

We live in a dry area with more sunny days than wet days. Which is great for outdoor activities. Reno usually sees 50 days out of the water year where it rains or snows enough to measure. This year it happened 46 times. Most of those days were in February and March. Forecast is dry for the next several days.
