The search continues for a man who went missing several weeks ago near Washoe Valley.

35-year-old Ryan Jeremy Carter Laxague was last seen the night of September 1 through the morning of September 2.

The last trace of him investigators found was his truck on September 17. Investigators say they found the truck around the Jumbo Grade Trailhead area.

Friday morning, volunteers in the 775 Offroad and Recovery nonprofit organization set out near the trailhead.

Around 9:30 a.m., crew members met at the incident command post for a plan of attack.

Given the terrain of the area, leaders stressed that people should not test their limits and always travel with a buddy.

"It's a very rugged area," said Mike Rollins, Public Information Officer, 775 Offroad and Recovery. "A lot of vegetation, a lot of trees. The heat and weather obviously are another factor."

The area around the truck has been searched repeatedly, so there was a new course of action.

"It was to start from the vehicle and start fanning out more, almost in like a circle in multiple directions, and attempt to fan out and cover as much area as we can on foot," Rollins said.

While many travel on foot, there were volunteers in cars, side-by-sides, ATVs, and dirt bikes.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says Laxague could be going through a personal crisis and is also attempting to find him.

This nonprofit doesn't typically handle search and rescues. As they put it, typically, search and rescue groups focus on finding the person, and they focus on finding and removing the cars.

They have handled a few search and rescues as an organization.

However, the nonprofit was requested to come out in hopes of finding Laxague after the weeks he's been missing.

"The family reached out to us around, I believe, the 21st. It was the beginning of the week, is when they reached out to our organization, asked if we would be willing to help out," Rollins said.

The volunteers started searching the area on Tuesday. It's been more than three weeks now since Laxague was last seen, and his birthday was on Thursday.
