"Smart About Water" Day is a time for the community to learn just about anything about water in our region.
At the event operators, scientists, and engineers will be on hand to answer questions and talk about what goes into managing water resources in the Truckee Meadows.
“Water is precious," said Andy Gebhardt, Director of Distribution Services for TMWA. "We all need it and we all use it and when you’re there we all have questions about it, whether it be growth or water quality or water shed protection. Whatever it is. landscaping, we have experts there that can talk about it.”
At the event the community will learn about the status of our water supply, what TMWA’s been doing to protect wells, or if there are any planned infrastructure projects that could improve water service in your neighborhood.
Gebhardt says a lot goes into managing our water resources.
“You have to look at the climate," he said. "You have to look at history and growth projections, a little bit of everything."
He also says our water supply going into the summer has been great.
“This is the second year in a row we’ll be above average, honestly. All the reservoirs are going to fill and spill this year. It’s a great year to go enjoy the outdoors and go enjoy the lakes.” said Gebhardt.
This is the 6th year this event has been going on.
At the event there will be activities and family focused displays and presentations.
TMWA’s big rigs will also be on display, so the community can explore and learn how TMWA's equipment functions. And if you get hungry at the event there will also be food trucks.
"Smart About Water" Day is on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center.
