A Sparks man has been indicted by the Washoe County Grand Jury on a charge of Open Murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend and the mother of his two young children.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Luis Ibarra was indicted on Thursday following a daylong grand jury presentation by the DA’s Office.
Upon the indictment, a no bail hold was placed on Ibarra who will remain in custody as this case proceeds through the legal process.
As we reported, Ibarra is accused of stabbing and killing his girlfriend and the mother of his two kids -- Yadira Cano back in October of 2023.

A judge has denied setting a bail for a man accused of a murder a year and a half ago.
Luis Ibarra appeared in court Monday for a hearing on whether he could be granted bail before a trial.
His attorney had been asking a monetary bail amount be established, but today a judge said a no bail hold would remain.
As we reported, Ibarra is accused of stabbing and killing his girlfriend and the mother of his two kids -- Yadira Cano back in October of 2023.
Sparks Police arrested him earlier this month.
A preliminary hearing for him is set for early August.

A suspect is under arrest in a Sparks homicide from October 23, 2023.  Sparks police say Luis Ibarra is now in custody. Â
Sparks Police Officers responded to a residence on Boise Dr, for a Welfare Check. Upon arrival, officers met with several family members of Yadira Cano, who reported that they were concerned about her welfare because they had not heard from Cano for several hours. While officers were on scene Cano’s live-in boyfriend and the father of her two young children, Luis Ibarra, arrived and allowed officers to check the residence.
Inside, officers say they found Cano deceased from multiple stab wounds. Sparks Detectives responded and took over the investigation.
The investigation included assistance from the Washoe County Crime Lab, the Regional Crime Suppression Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.
Today, an arrest warrant for Luis Ibarra was issued for Open Murder for the death of Yadira Cano. At approximately 12:15 pm, Ibarra was taken into custody and booked at the Washoe County Jail.

Sparks Police are investigating a suspicious death near Boise Court and Mongolo Drive.Â
When police got to the home around 4:30 p.m., they found a woman unresponsive.
The unidentified woman was later pronounced dead.Â
