The Storey County Sheriff's Office is warning of a scam targeting local residents.
Victims have been getting calls from an unknown person claiming to work with the Sheriff's Office.
That person tells victims they need to take care of a legal issue by paying money to avoid a warrant or arrest, a post on the SCSO's Facebook page says.
The Storey County Sheriff's Office does not ask for or accept money over the phone.
They also never ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency as payment.
Anyone who gets a call like this is advised to hang up right away and not give out personal information or make any payments.
If you receive such a call you are asked to call Storey County Dispatch at (775) 847-0950 and request to talk with a deputy.
