Super Bowl weekend is coming up fast. While there's a lot of fun to be had, there are also important things to remember to stay safe.

While some stay at home to enjoy the game, others head out to watch it, and if you're drinking, that means you need to have your own game plan for a safe way home.

Anita Pepper, Public Information Officer with the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, says, "Super Bowl weekend is one of the times when people get together with their friends and family and watch the game, eat a lot of food, and also drink. And we want to remind people if they plan to celebrate this weekend, they should plan ahead with a sober ride, a ride share, or public transportation."

She says in 2025 in Nevada, 385 died on Nevada roads, and 69 of those deaths happened in Washoe County.

Zero Fatalities gave us some stats on Wednesday.

They said safety is essential for the big day. They went on to tell us that 30% of all traffic crash-related deaths in the United States involve drunk drivers.

They say in 2023, there were 12,429 people killed in these preventable crashes.

Pepper tells us there will be a big presence of law enforcement on the roads this weekend to help keep people safe.

She says speed is also an issue they see a lot on the roads.

"If you're going too fast, you're not going to have enough time to stop if you need to stop short, so make sure you're always giving yourself enough space when you're driving around cars, and make sure you're going the speed limit."

Pepper also mentions not being afraid to say no to getting in the car with someone who's been drinking, or even taking their keys away to keep them safe.

If you suspect someone of driving under the influence, call 911 immediately.
