On Friday, a suspect opened fire leaving three police officers shot before a lengthy standoff which concluded when the suspect was found dead.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office identified the suspect as 34-year-old Anthony Wade.

The Reno Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident in conjunction with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

The standoff lasted hours, leaving neighborhood residents shaken up by what took place.

"It was actually nerve racking, it was scary," said one neighbor who asked to keep her identity a secret. "I have kids on my own and they were crying. You know, it was just a very bad environment and I just feel like normally, the Sparks area, we don't have that."

"I am fine," said one homeowner, who also asked her identity to be kept a secret. "I was not injured during the incident, and I'm just working through what is going on here."

Some homes in the neighborhood are damaged, but they tell us Sparks Police is working with them to help in cleaning up.

To recap what happened, on Friday at about 1:30 p.m., Sparks Police pulled over Wade.

That's when they say he started firing a handgun, hitting one Sparks officer in the shoulder.

Investigators say Wade then fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into another car at the intersection of Greenbrae Drive and Rock Boulevard.

They say Wade then ran away on foot, entered someone's home, and was driven out by the person living there.

Officers say they then checked a second home, where a woman opened the door and dropped to the floor before Wade started shooting at the officers from inside the home.

One Sparks officer and one Washoe County deputy were shot.

Wade then entered a third home, went into the back yard and began shooting at officers again.

Police were able to get both residents safely out of their homes and Wade barricaded himself in that house.

SWAT, the Sheriff's Office, Sparks Police and Reno Police negotiated for several hours with Wade.

They say on several occasions Wade shot at police and they returned fire.

At 10 p.m., officers entered the home and found him dead.

After everything that happened, neighbors are coming together during this time.

"We feel united. We feel connected with one another," one neighbor said.

All three officers who were shot were treated for their injuries and have been released from the hospital.
