It's always exciting to witness the arrival of the holiday season, and the Grand Sierra Resort is no exception. As of Friday, the resort's ice rink is officially open, adding to the festive atmosphere of the place.

"It's family fun for everyone," said Grand Sierra Resort Executive Director of Marketing Erin Wootan.

The ice rink at GSR has become a beloved holiday tradition. It transforms the south exterior of the property into a magical winter wonderland that families can enjoy together. Staying warm by the fire pits while sipping on hot cocoa is a perfect way to spend a chilly evening. Adults can also indulge in the specialty cocktail menu.

"This is cultivated by our wonderful team here at the Grand Sierra. We have our own Zamboni driver. He comes out in between each of the five sessions for ice skating we have each night," explained Wootan.

If it has been a while since you last went skating, there are some helpful skate aids that can assist you in getting back your balance on the ice.

"It is weather permitting, so if it gets warm suddenly, it may not be open. But it feels cold enough to be open all seven days of the week. If you get cold, you can rent out one of our fire pit spaces. You can also get s'mores that you can roast over the fire. We have skate rentals; there is no need to worry if you don't have skates; you can get them out here. There are five sessions a night, and you can sign up for those sessions in advance online, or you can just come on down and sign up in person," explained Wootan.

The ice rink opens every day of the week at 5 pm. The fee per session is $17, which covers the cost of skate rental. However, if you bring your own skates, the price drops to $10.
