Wild Island held a training for current and future lifeguards.

The Coconut Bowl employs about 200 people year-round. During the summer, the waterpark employs an additional 275 people, which includes lifeguards.

"It's super important for us to start our training this early in the season so we can get a lot of practice in, we can have so much time for their brains to soak up all of the knowledge, all of the practice so that way when we do open up and are ready to go everyone is rescue ready and confident and knows what's going on," said Sammy Linnenbrink, operations manager at the Wild Island water park.

Wild Island estimates the water park will open May 17, weather permitting.
