Oil prices roared upward and stock markets fell further after Iran fired more drones and missiles across the Persian Gulf and beyond in response to U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, after defiantly choosing hard-line Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his late father as Iran's supreme leader. The continued fighting signaled no letup in a 10-day war that has choked off supplies from a pivotal source of oil and gas to world markets, sent many foreigners scurrying home and prompted millions to shutter themselves indoors or in safety bunkers as bombs hit sites like military bases, government buildings, oil and water installations, hotels and at least one school.
