A heavy emergency response outside a downtown Reno high-rise on Friday morning turned out to be a small fire that was quickly controlled.

Fire crews responded to a building at 205 S. Sierra Street, where a fire alarm prompted a large response and road closures in the area.

Officials say the fire was small and was put out by the building’s sprinkler system before it could spread.

The large response was a precaution because the call involved a high-rise building, where crews typically send more units due to the complexity and potential risks of fires in taller structures.

Road closures in the area were also precautionary because multiple emergency vehicles were staged in the street while crews worked the scene.

Police and deputies assisted by blocking roads and helping secure access near the building while fire crews responded.

Our news crew at the scene reported multiple units outside the building during the response.

Officials say the situation was brought under control, and crews began clearing the scene.
