A former Ukrainian army officer is going on trial in Germany over undersea explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines between Russia and Germany four years ago. Prosecutors say the suspect, identified as Serhii K., faces charges of causing an explosion, damaging property, and being an accomplice to war crimes. The trial, which starts Wednesday, is held under strict security at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg. The explosions occurred in September 2022, damaging pipelines meant to carry Russian natural gas to Germany. The suspect was detained in Italy in August and extradited to Germany in November.
