23 killed, 108 wounded in suspected suicide bombings in northeast Nigeria

Police in Nigeria say suspected suicide bombings have killed at least 23 people and wounded 108 others in Maiduguri. The attack Monday night is one of the northeastern city’s deadliest in years. Residents and emergency workers reported three blasts in crowded areas Monday night including a major market and the entrance to a hospital. Police said Tuesday that they suspected suicide bombers. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. But suspicion quickly fell on the Boko Haram. The jihadi group launched an insurgency in 2009 in northeastern Nigeria to enforce their radical interpretation of Shariah or Islamic law. Boko Haram has since become stronger with thousands of fighters and different factions.
