The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Fernley on Monday night.

Troopers say 63-year-old Sylvestra Alvarado of Fernley was walking westbound across Farm District Road in or near the marked crosswalk when she was hit by a black 2007 Cadillac CTS sedan driven by 49-year-old Antionette Vann of Fallon.

Vann was driving south on Farm District near Jennys Lane. Troopers say the left front of the sedan hit Alvardo. She died at the scene.

Vann's two children were inside the Cadillac when the accident happened just after 8:30pm. No one inside the sedan was hurt.

Authorities say Vann is cooperating with the investigation. They say alcohol is not believed to be involved in this accident.

Troopers say once the investigation is complete, any applicable charges will be forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney's Office for review.

Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Major Accident Investigation Team or M.A.I.T. is investigating this tragedy. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are encouraged to contact him at (775) 689-4623 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-140401241.
