The Thanksgiving Calzone is back at all three Noble Pie Parlor locations. It's become a bit of a tradition.
"We've done it every year since 2013 or so; it's a huge crowd pleaser," said Owner Ryan Goldhammer. "People look forward to it every year, we get a lot of emails about it, so we're really excited to bring it back. It's like Reno's McRib, you know?"
It's garlic-rosemary mashed potatoes, sage dressing, house-made sausage, turkey gravy and mozzarella all wrapped up, baked, and topped with a Cointreau-cranberry sauce.
The Midtown location will be open on Thanksgiving Day, staffed by those who volunteer for the shift, and it's usually a pretty big day for business.
"It's busier than you would think," Goldhammer said. "We do an orphan Thanksgiving, an orphan Christmas and there are a lot of people that don't have anywhere to go that are thankful they have somewhere to hang out and watch football. Our staff is really immersed in this community and there are so many people that really get to know them, and it's really nice for them to see a friendly face."
The Midtown patio was a big help during the summer months, so they're trying to keep that going as temperatures drop.
"We're working on mitigations to block the wind, we're doing an overhead shelter and we have 6 infrared heaters installed," Goldhammer said. "We may add more if we need them, but as long as we can block the wind and keep it warm out there, we think we can provide a really beautiful and warm environment for everyone to enjoy."
He says customers have been supportive since the pandemic began, and they continue to do what they can to help keep the doors open.
"We've had people come in to buy gift certificates, to buy merchandise, to buy food for their neighbors," Goldhammer said. "People in Reno have really come together and we've been very fortunate. "We just feel so privileged to be a part of this community and to be supported so heavily by it to get through the tough times."
The Thanksgiving calzone will be on the menu at all three Noble Pie Parlor locations until December 6.
