The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a severe thunderstorm warning.
The warning is for Alpine County in northern California, El Dorado County in northern California, Douglas County in western Nevada and Western Carson City in western Nevada.
The warning will last until 6:15 p.m.
Officials say at 5:39 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Gardnerville Ranchos, or near Gardnerville, moving north at 30 mph.
They report 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, fencing and trees.
