Starting on October 1st drivers will be asked to submit odometer readings at the DMV when they register or sell their cars. Now all cars, except motorcycles, mopeds and farm vehicles will have their mileage tracked.
Some drivers say, this could lead to an increase in taxes and they want to make sure that money will be used properly.
"The state wants money I understand, they spend tons of money putting beautiful art next to freeways and highways some of us don't agree with the money that is being spent,” says driver Jesse Montero,
Experts say, this could help with a more effective way to fund highways.
they say there won’t be any on board device tracking the miles or where you go, and the goal is to have a better idea how much Nevadans are driving, charging everyone equally.
Jesse Montero, has an online petition to try and stop the project. He also plans on getting signatures on paper, taking it to legislature in the 2021 session.
“That is the goal, we first need signatures to even have a leg to stand on, we need 1/10 of the voter base, that’s why my number is 140 thousand signatures needed, if the department of taxation and revenues is the one this this pilot program to do a study, it’s not often known to us citizens if they don’t come up with a reason to tax us,” says Montero.
