A Lake Tahoe couple is questioning Washoe County's animal control laws after their dog died from injuries suffered in an attack by two larger dogs last month.
Â
According to Washoe County Animal Services, James Gaither of Incline Village was walking his 8-year-old dog, Bertie, at about 9:45 p.m. on April 20 when a pair of 2-year-old German shepherds attacked.
Â
Gaither was bitten by the dogs and his wife, Bonnie, told the Sierra Sun (http://tinyurl.com/kzr4xhc ) that Bertie had his skin ripped off.
Steve Miller, the owner of the German shepherds, received four citations with fines totaling $400 and was required to quarantine his dogs for 10 days in accordance with the county ordinance.
Â
The Gaithers want the ordinance changed to require euthanization of any dog that attacks others unprovoked.
