HOW LONG YOU HAVE LIVED IN NEVADA: More than 40 years

WRITE A BRIEF (TWO TO THREE SENTENCES) SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENABLE YOU TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE:

I’m proud to be ranked as one of the most bipartisan and effective members of the U.S. Senate. I’m focused on getting things done for our state – not on playing the same old Washington games. I’ve never hesitated to put partisanship aside or take on special interests to deliver results for hardworking Nevadans.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?

My top priority is working across party lines and taking on powerful special interests to grow the middle class and fight for our state. I’m focused on lowering everyday costs for hardworking families like housing, gas, groceries, and health care, while creating good-paying jobs. I took on big drug companies to cap the cost of insulin at $35/month and lower medication prices for seniors, and I’m fighting to crack down on corporate investors buying up housing stock and driving up prices. I’m committed to making sure Nevada’s veterans, servicemembers, and military families get the support they need. I helped pass the PACT Act to expand health care for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits, and now I’m working to bring a new VA hospital to Reno that will better serve veterans across Northern Nevada. I also pushed to pass a new bipartisan law to help police departments across Nevada hire and retain new officers and increase mental health resources for first responders. And I’m supporting a bipartisan plan to secure our border that would fix key aspects of our broken immigration system and stop the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl.

IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING OUR COUNTRY, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?

Families across the country are struggling to keep up with the rising prices of everyday essentials. I’m working in the Senate to lower costs for hardworking Nevadans and give our families more breathing room. I helped pass a historic new law that caps the price of insulin at $35 per month for seniors and gives Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug costs. I’m continuing the fight to cap insulin costs and make medications more affordable for all Americans so that no one has to choose between affording life-saving medication and paying for other essentials like rent or groceries. To address skyrocketing housing costs, I’ve secured millions in funding for affordable housing options in Nevada, and I’m fighting to take on corporate landlords who are driving up prices. I’m also taking on price gouging by Big Oil CEOs who are raising prices at the pump and major grocery store chains that are pursuing corporate mergers that would reduce competition at the expense of consumers.

CONSUMER PRICES AND HOUSING COSTS HAVE SHOT UP SINCE THE PANDEMIC—WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP NEVADANS WHO ARE STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY?

One of the most important ways we can improve the lives of Nevadans is by reducing the financial burden of affording everyday essentials like housing, gas, and groceries. I’m committed to lowering costs for hardworking Nevadans and giving our families more breathing room. I’m fighting to bring down housing costs by cracking down on corporate investors who are buying up housing stock and driving up costs, so that more families can have an affordable place to call home in Nevada. I helped secure $500 million for Nevada to create more housing options for hardworking families. I’ve also introduced comprehensive legislation to prioritize opportunities to build affordable housing in Washoe County. Additionally, I’m pushing legislation to support first-time homebuyers, ensure veterans can afford rent, and expand tax credits to build more housing, increase supply, and bring costs down. I’ve also pushed back against giant corporations that are driving up costs for hardworking Nevadans. I’m taking on price gouging by Big Oil CEOs raking in record profits while raising prices and big grocery store chains trying to reduce competition at the expense of consumers. I successfully pushed the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Exxon Mobil’s potential merger that would significantly reduce competition and drive up gas prices, and I’m continuing my work to protect Nevadans from even higher prices at the pump. To prevent grocery prices from increasing further, I’m pushing back against the Kroger and Albertsons merger that could increase already-high food costs for families.

IF THE LEGAL RIGHT TO ABORTION WERE TO COME UP FOR A VOTE IN CONGRESS, WOULD YOU VOTE FOR IT? WHY OR WHY NOT?

I strongly support a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions – free from interference from politicians. I will always stand up for Nevadans’ reproductive freedom and fight back against extreme Republicans’ attempts to ban abortion nationwide. Since the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, I’ve been working to enshrine reproductive freedom in federal law and standing strong against Republican attacks on abortion rights. I helped introduce the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law and defend women’s access to critical reproductive care. I would be proud to vote for this legislation if it came to the Senate floor. I also championed legislation to protect women and doctors from prosecution by anti-choice states for seeking reproductive care in states like Nevada.

IN ONE SENTENCE: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I always put Nevada first, and I will work with anyone – Republican, Democrat, or Independent – to do what’s right for our state.

YES OR NO: WILL YOU ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION, WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE?

    Yes.
