Pile Burning Around Lake Tahoe Blows Smoke as Far East as Fernley

Courtesy: Alert Wildfire

Multiple pile burns around Incline Village and Glenbrook caused smoke to drift east as far as Fernley today.

According to the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT), the smoke from the prescribed fires is normal and may continue for several days.

Because of the cooler temperatures and precipitation, the TFFT has been able to continue prescribed fire operations, including pile burning and understory burning. The prescribed fire operations help to remove excess branches, limbs, stumps and vegetation to help prevent unwanted wildfires.

TFFT tries to give the public as much advance notice as possible before burning. Residents can always check on prescribed fire operations here and see affected areas from smoke here.
