The V&T Railway is bringing back the Polar Express Train Ride starting Friday, November 15th.
"We have a blast putting this on, this is our favorite event of the year," said Elaine Barkdull-Spencer, General Manager of the V&T Railway Commission. "When it's time to start shutting down the regular season and transforming to the Polar Express everyone gets excited."
It's an hour-long adventure that follows the moved based on the popular children's story. And this train ride is for kids of all ages.
"We have people that come and ride the train that don't bring children," Barkdull-Spencer said. "We have retirees, large families, Christmas parties, we have people that just want to get on board and go to the north pole."
They hire dozens of actors to help tell the story and there's entertainment and hot chocolate all the way up to the destination - the North Pole. For many, it's a way to really get into the holiday spirit.
"I want them believing," Barkdull-Spencer said. "I want them to believe we do have a North Pole - and it's not Virginia City, it's actually in the mountains in a secret location. But it is a village and we build it every year and the train drives through the village."
The Polar Express runs through Christmas Eve. Pajamas on the train are encouraged!
