From the Northern Nevada Development Authority:
Staff members from Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) met with a delegation of economic officials from Poland this week to discuss strengthening the economic ties between Poland and Northern Nevada. The meeting focused on the similarities between the economies of the Sierra Region and Poland and on how the two might work together to benefit the economies of both.
Several regions in Poland are growing similar to Carson City and the rest of the Sierra Region, specifically in the areas of medical technology, science and technology research, advanced manufacturing and unmanned systems. With such similar economic interests it makes sense for Poland and Northern Nevada to work together. Several companies in Poland are looking to establish a presence in the United States and are exploring the opportunities Northern Nevada has to offer. With lower start-up costs and a lower cost of living than California, as well as our central proximity to the entire western United States, the Sierra Region is an ideal place to establish a presence in the US market. Likewise, the partnership could be an opportunity for local companies that are looking to launch themselves into the European market.
“This is the second time I have met with economic officials from Poland and I am increasingly optimistic about developing close relationships between the Sierra Region and key players in Poland,” said Rob Hooper, Executive Director of Northern Nevada Development Authority, “I anticipate there will be many more working meetings to create a mutually beneficial relationship with Poland.”
Among the attendees at this week's meeting were Pawe Pietrasieñski, Minister Counselor, Chief of Trade and Investment Section, Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington DC, Justyna Gorzoch, Chief Specialist, Department of Innovation & Industry, Polish Ministry of Economy, Edyta Jankowska, Director, Polish Chamber of Commerce, Jakub Medrala, Director, Polish Chamber of Commerce, Lukas Lipinski, Expert, Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington DC, John Petkus, Honorary Consul General, Poland, Andie Wilson, NAI Alliance Carson City, Bruce Robertson, NAI Alliance Carson City, Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, and Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski.
“We had a great meeting with the Polish delegation today which is looking to expand business relations between Poland and Carson City,” said Mayor Bob Crowell speaking about the event. Supervisor Bonkowski added “It was an honor to meet with the delegation from Poland this morning. It is apparent that there are many synergies between us regarding economic development issues and I look forward to welcoming many Polish businesses to our area in the coming years.”
The meeting was part of an ongoing effort by the Governor's Office of Economic Development to increase global trade with countries around the world and to build international awareness of the economic opportunities in Nevada. Kristopher Sanchez, Director of International Trade for the Governor's Office of Economic Development, said “This marks the third such delegation to come to Nevada in the last three months. We are confident there will be investment by Polish companies in Nevada.”
