Procession Honors CHP Officer Nathan Taylor

A procession went through Reno on Wednesday to honor a California Highway Patrol officer who died after being hit by an SUV over the weekend on I-80 near Castle Peak.

The procession for Officer Nathan Taylor started at the Washoe Medical Examiner's Office in Reno at 2 p.m. and then traveled west via I-80 to Roseville.

"This is just one of the ways that we can show our respects. We're doing it for the officer and also for the officer's family. To let them know, we consider them a family, a brother in arms and just like anybody else, any other family, we take of our own," says Officer Dave Gibson, Nevada Dept of Public Safety.

Taylor's family followed behind the hearse led by law enforcement agencies flashing their red and blue lights.

The ride was a moment to reflect for Sgt. Frank Hernandez with the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

"Anytime a law enforcement officer falls in the line of duty, it affects us all. We know the risks we take and we take them willingly, because we love what we do."

Taylor was from Gold Run, California and was married with three young sons.

A fund has been established with CAHP Credit Union for Officer Taylor's family.
