Reno Man Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to Strangling Ex-Girlfriend

Authorities say a 21-year-old man must serve a minimum of two years after pleading guilty to strangling his ex-girlfriend.

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Skyler Gene Mendonca pleaded guilty in February to one felony count of domestic battery by strangulation.

The DA's Office says the 19-year-old victim told Reno Police she was strangled unconscious by her ex-boyfriend in October 2018.

He was sentenced last Thursday and will serve 364 days in Washoe County Jail, then serve an additional five years in state prison.Â
