City of Reno Seeks Community Input at Teen City Youth Summit

A police sergeant was awarded almost $1.4 million from the city of Reno after a federal judge ruled that the police department retaliated against him for using medical leave to care for his wife.

Sgt. Michael Browett took medical leave after his wife gave birth to their child and the original amount he was rewarded was $112,657.

A federal judge upped the amount this week to nearly $1.4 million, and decided that Browett's lawyer, Jack Campbell was entitled to around $250,000 in attorney fees.

The city plans to appeal the decision.

Browett filed a lawsuit two years ago after his wife suffered complications during childbirth. He was denied a promotion to lieutenant despite scoring higher than any other candidate.
