Washoe Deputies Arrest Reno Man on Animal Cruelty Charges

Jason Schilo Brown

A 24-year-old man accused of killing and dismembering five dogs at a Reno motel is headed back to court on animal torture and drug charges that could send him to prison for more than 20 years.

Jason Brown is scheduled to appear at a status hearing in Washoe District Court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He was arrested on July 9th after a maid called police when she found a decapitated dog in the bathtub of a motel room Brown was renting.

Police also found four dog heads inside a small refrigerator, along with several bloody knives and scissors.

Brown's lawyer, John Oakes, told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the former Reno High School student has "mental health issues." He says he may need a psychiatric evaluation before he goes to trial.   (AP)
