On Wednesday, the Reno Tahoe International Film Festival (RTIFF) announced the details of its inaugural event, set for June 5 through 7, and revealed a list of approximately 40 top independent films from around the world and locally that will participate. The film festival will include film screenings, special events and awards receptions held at the festival venue, The Siena Hotel Spa Casino, and additional screening locations, Galaxy Luxury + IMAX Theatres in Sparks and Century Riverside 12 in Downtown Reno and the Tahoe City Art Haus in Tahoe City, Calif. “This organization has been hard at work for the last several months putting together an event unlike any other film festival in the region,” said Paul Jackson, vice president of the board of directors for the RTIFF. “We are very excited to have an incredible lineup of films and events and we look forward to seeing film lovers, participants and members of our community supporting this new and exciting arts and culture event.”
Some of the films announced for the upcoming event include the highly anticipated documentary feature film “Human Harvest (a.k.a Davids and Goliath),” which tells the story of Nobel Peace Prize nominees David Matas and David Kilgour as they use their wisdom and courage to fight against one of the world's worst crimes against humanity; the award-winning Argentinean short comedy, “In the Clouds”; the highly-acclaimed and thought-provoking documentary “Rooted in Peace,” which challenges viewers to examine their values as Americans and human beings; and the locally produced documentary “Vision: Healing the Blind in Ethiopia,” which tells the story of five blind Ethiopian farmers and housewives who are helpless and hopeless and waiting for death. The film follows their lives from darkness, through a simple surgical process, to the astonishing moment that sight returns and their lives become wonderfully normal again. Officials from the RTIFF also announced a “Meet the Filmmakers” party, which will take place at The Siena on Friday, June 5 at 9 p.m. and an “Awards Reception and After Party” at The Siena on Sunday, June 7 at 4 p.m. Both events are open to the public and individual tickets for these events are also on sale now at

Individual screenings for the inaugural Reno Tahoe International Film Festival are just $20 with half-off for students and seniors. Party and event passes are available for $175 ($200 on-site) for the Opening Night “Meet the Filmmakers” Party, awards reception and closing party. A la carte party pricing is also available for $100 per event. For movie lovers, the RTIFF Indie Lover's Pass is just $150 and includes entry into all film screenings ($175 on site) and, for those looking to capture the entire experience, the RTIFF VIP All Access Pass provides entry into all screenings and events for $300 ($325 on site).
Awards will be given to the best films of the festival including categories like Best Short Documentary, Best Foreign Film Feature, Best Student Fil, Best Local Film, Best Screenplay, Best Drone Cinematography and Best of Festival.
