Scolari's in Northwest Reno to Close Next Month

Scolari's Food & Drug Company has announced that its Sharlands Avenue location in northwest Reno will close on – or about June 12th.

The store located near Robb Drive opened in April 2004 - and with its closing represents the fourth closure in the past year by the locally owned supermarket chain.

“We have struggled at this location since it opened because of the downturn in the area development,” said Scolari's C.E.O., Joey Scolari. “Coming up with a strategy to deal with the location was complicated because of the economics of our lease, but over the last few months we've been able to work through the issues. This is the last of our under-performing locations and we don't anticipate any more closures going forward. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience to our loyal customers.”

If positions are available, all store associates will be offered jobs at other Scolari's locations.

Scolari's Food & Drug Company is headquartered in Reno, Nevada and will continue to operate eight stores, including one Sak ‘n Save, all located in Northern Nevada.

Saint Mary's Medical Group announced on Monday that it will be taking over the space starting in November 2015.

“Supporting the growth of our community, including seniors, is part of our strategic mission and that involves adapting to and accommodating the needs of local residents,” said Helen Lidholm, CEO of Saint Mary's Health Network. “Our goal is to continue to provide affordable options and efficient access to care which directly contributes to a healthier community.”

The new 46,000 square-foot location will replace Saint Mary's existing northwest Reno clinic, currently located at 1595 Robb Drive. Beginning November 2015 patients will have access to the new clinic featuring expanded hours, family medicine providers, imaging services, and other specialty care. The location will also utilize a centralized scheduling system so patients can easily make multiple appointments and follow-up with their provider in a timely fashion. Additionally, seniors can utilize Saint Mary's Senior Wellness Center which identifies long-term care options for those with chronic conditions. More details will be provided as the development of the location progresses.
