Six Flags Magic Mountain is retiring its famous X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits alleging the ride caused serious brain injuries. The Southern California theme park announced Tuesday that it is permanently closing the ride after nearly 20 years. Six Flags recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit from the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding the coaster in 2022. Three more lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week. Park President Brian Oerding said that while X2 consistently passed safety tests, Six Flags decided to permanently close the ride to maintain guest confidence. The ride has been closed since July 12.

Three people have filed lawsuits against Six Flags Magic Mountain, claiming they suffered traumatic brain injuries from the park's famous X2 roller coaster. The lawsuits, filed Monday, follow a recent settlement over a wrongful death case involving the same ride. The plaintiffs' attorney, Gary Dordick, says more than 100 clients have reported brain injuries from the ride in the past two years. One of his clients remains in the hospital in a vegetative state. Six Flags has not commented on the pending litigation but said the ride has been closed since July 12.
