The Food Bank of Northern Nevada on Friday announced a $50,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation to fund its School Pantry program, a child hunger initiative that helps to make sure low-income families have a readily accessible source of healthy and nutritious food to prepare at home.

A national commission on hunger in the United States has released a report detailing ways our country can improve its food assistance system. And the commission has a local tie: Cherie Jamason, the CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is one of nine people who were selected by Congress to study food insecurity in the U.S.

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada thanks the community for voting in the online “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Walmart Campaign, which ended on Sunday. The food bank will receive a $45,000 grant and $5,000 each will go to five separate partner agencies.
