Local scientists says our changing climate is leading to snow droughts. This can have an impact on our water supply and tourism.

After a dry winter, the region is back in a drought.

The Western Regional Climate Center in Nevada almost always has a new project going on, and they just finished upgrading one that will come in handy this winter season. The Climate Tracker Tool can be helpful for a variety of other things as well. 

We are currently in a snow drought, which can have both immediate and long term impacts on our environment. Research is being done at the Desert Research Institute to learn more about them and their impacts. 

Everything from a busy fire season, to an epic snow season, and a drought years prior, make up our climate in Northern Nevada and California. Now, with the help of the web application "Climate Engine," scientists can go back and look at data for research in a much shorter time frame.  

The drought is not over with and we still need to be careful of our water use, however, it is nice to see how far we’ve come over the past year.
