The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 6.4 earthquake has struck near the coast of Taiwan. Taiwan's premier says two people were killed and more than 140 were injured in the earthquake.

New York City's deadliest residential fire in decades spread through every floor of a Bronx apartment building within a matter of minutes, city officials said, killing 12 people including four children.

At least 30 people have been confirmed killed in the Oakland “Ghost Ship” warehouse fire, Sgt. Ray Kelly of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday after about 20 percent of the wreckage had been searched and deceased victims of a deadly blaze were located.
