Washoe County announced Thursday that it is declaring a state of emergency, asking for federal assistance due to all the flood damage. This comes after a press conference in which the county addressed major flooding problems in the Lemmon Valley area. 

As the region continues recovery operations, Washoe County Manager John Slaughter signed the termination of the Emergency Declaration on Wednesday, which was initiated by the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 6, 2017.

Community leaders, local and state lawmakers and even members of the media were invited to learn more about the job fire fighters do on a daily basis. The all-day event had teams of "fire fighters" responding to four common calls.

On Tuesday, August 9th, Washoe County Board of Commissioners accepted the Declaration of State of Emergency for northern Washoe County by  County Manager John Slaughter. Washoe County says the State of Emergency was declared after multiple fires broke out over the last two weeks and will stay in place for as long as required.
