The Washoe County Board of Commissioners have chosen Eric Brown to be the new Washoe County Manager.

An employment agreement will now be submitted to the Board for consideration and possible approval during the next earliest possible scheduled Board meeting.

The Washoe County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to hold a special meeting on Monday to discuss, and possibly decide on a new county manager after John Slaughter retired earlier this year.

The 9 a.m. public meeting will consider three candidates: Eric Brown, Jon Hager and Kate Thomas.

Once all of the interviews are conducted, it is anticipated Commissioners will proceed to a nomination process to identify their top candidates for the Washoe County Manager position, and could potentially be named during the meeting.

Slaughter retired after 32 years of service. In April he said, “Leaving Washoe County is not a decision I come to lightly. This decision comes only after much thought and many discussions with my family. I have come to recognize that time spent with family is not indefinite and after more than 32 years with this great organization, I look forward to devoting time to family and friends.”

Washoe County says Slaughter spent his entire professional career with the county and for the last five years, served as the county's top executive as County Manager. He was appointed by the Board of County Commissioner in November of 2013.

The 9 a.m. meeting will be held inside the county chambers at 1001 East 9th Street in Reno.
