The Philippine Senate has started the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in a politically volatile event that will unfold against the backdrop of her feud with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Thousands of police officers were deployed to secure the Senate on Monday. Duterte was represented by lawyers at the start of the trial. She is accused of amassing unexplained wealth and publicly threatening to have Marcos assassinated. She denies that. If convicted, Duterte may be permanently disqualified from holding public office. A conviction would be a lethal blow to the vice president’s plan to seek the presidency in mid-2028.

Robinson has not entered a plea, and his attorneys have made no comments on his guilt or innocence. Kirk was the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA. He was assassinated Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Authorities in California say former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband has been involved in a hit-and-run and could face misdemeanor charges. They say Paul Pelosi hit a parked car in Yountville and briefly stopped before driving away. A witness called 911, and deputies found him nearby with severe damage to his car. He was not under the influence at the time and was not arrested. The Napa County Sheriff's Office recommended charging him with fleeing the scene of an accident. The 86-year-old also was referred to the DMV for a process to determine whether he may continue to drive. Pelosi previously pleaded guilty to DUI charges in 2022.
