Hit and run car

August 21, 10:33 a.m. update:

A Reno family is asking for financial support after a 5-year-old boy died following a suspected hit-and-run crash earlier this week.

Officials say the child was struck by a car while chasing a ball near 9th Street and Dolomite Circle on August 17 and later died at a hospital.

His uncle, Juan Siordia, has organized a GoFundMe to help the family with expenses following the crash.

Siordia wrote that the child had been playing with his siblings when he went into the street to chase a ball. He said the driver left the scene after the child was struck.

The fundraiser, titled "Our Angel is in Heaven now," was initially created to help with the child's intensive care and provide financial relief for the family. Siordia later shared an update on the fundraiser on Thursday, writing, "As of today at 4:04am our little angel is now in heaven te queremos mucho mijo." In English, the message reads, "As of today at 4:04 a.m., our little angel is now in heaven. We love you very much, son."

The fundraiser had raised more than $9,000 from more than 180 donations as of Friday morning, with a goal of $10,000.

People who wish to support the family can donate through the GoFundMe organized by Siordia. "Our Angel is in Heaven now GoFundMe"
