UPDATE: The Washoe County School District (WCSD) says there are possibly three new cases of whooping cough -- an additional case at Damonte Ranch High School and possibly two at Robert McQueen High School.

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health says an outbreak of pertussis (whooping cough) has been declared in Elko County. It reports Elko County has seen a rise in pertussis cases over recent years. Elko County has had 14 cases of pertussis reported since July 2014.

Nevada health officials say the Silver State has seen a rise in pertussis cases over recent years. As of last month, Nevada has had 60 cases of pertussis reported, more than this time last year, hinting towards another year of elevated pertussis cases in the state.
