Last week the Washoe County School District Financial Protection Committee voted to budget $200 million for the building of three new schools. Before the WCSD Board of Trustees votes to finalize the funding Tuesday, they'll receive a more in-depth report about why the schools cost more than expected when WC-1 was voted in to law last November.

The Washoe County School District is considering using overpaid lunch funds to offset overdue accounts; but the means for doing so does not currently exist.  The district's Chief Operating Officer, Pete Etchart says they're awaiting legal advice and guidance from the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) before going forward with the option.

Washoe County voters have approved hiking the local sales tax half a penny to raise $780 million for school improvements in the Reno-Sparks area over the next 10 years.

The Washoe County School Board approved funding for projects at its board meeting this week, and about a quarter of the what it is approved to spend, will convert a boiler room at Echo Loder Elementary School.
