TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone pipeline leaked an estimated 210,000 gallons of oil onto agricultural land in northeastern South Dakota, but state officials don't believe the leak polluted any surface water bodies or drinking water systems. 

The $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline began shipping oil for customers on Thursday, as Native American tribes that opposed the project vowed to continue fighting.

Authorities in South Dakota on Tuesday confirmed an incident of vandalism against the Dakota Access oil pipeline in which someone burned a hole through an empty section of pipe.

The Dakota Access Pipeline is under construction in North Dakota. The $3.8 billion project would carry approximately 470,000 barrels of crude oil through the Dakotas, Iowa and Illinois, each day.

The cost of cleaning up last month's oil spill on the California coast has reached $69 million so far. Costs are running at $3 million a day, and there's no timetable for when the cleanup will be complete.

Officials from Plains All American Pipeline say they hope the broken section of a pipeline that spilled oil along the California Coast can be removed for investigation by Tuesday.

A sea lion has died after its rescue from the oil spill at Refugio State Beach, but two other animals continue to be treated at SeaWorld San Diego.

Officials have closed a 160-square-mile section of ocean to fishing because of the oil spill on the Santa Barbara coast.
