LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A sea lion has died after its rescue from the oil spill at Refugio State Beach, but two other animals continue to be treated at SeaWorld San Diego.
The L.A. Times reports that the male sea lion was in critical condition when it arrived at SeaWorld Thursday. Workers immediately washed off and hydrated the animal.
Park spokesman Kat Marin says the sea lion nevertheless died early Saturday.
Officials plan to do a necropsy, or animal autopsy, to determine the cause of death.
Another sea lion and an elephant seal were brought to SeaWorld Friday night. They are being treated by veterinarians and other SeaWorld rescue team members and officials say they are cautiously optimistic about their survival.

Landon Miller: We're getting a better understanding of the ecological havoc caused by Tuesday's oil spill off Santa Barbara. Inspections from the air today indicated progress is being made in the clean-up and impact of the oil spill along Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara and El Capitan State Beach in Goleta.
Those overseeing this massive cleanup of 9 and a half miles along the coast say the skimming operation is not gathering as much oil now because the oil has thinned out since this was detected Tuesday morning.
Plains All American Pipeline has been ordered to evacuate the faulty pipeline within 10 days.
Plains All American: As of this morning we have removed 370 barrels of oil, 15,540 gallons of oil from the pipeline.
Miller: Once it cleans out then the process of repairing the pipeline begins.
