Ten people are displaced after an apartment fire in downtown Reno in the early morning hours of November 17.

Temperatures are dipping into the freezing levels in the Truckee Meadows this week. Have you turned on your heater yet?  When temperatures drop, we tend to see more house fires related to heating. 

Firefighters see a spike in home fires during the winter months.  Some of those can be attributed to alternate heating sources that can be dangerous - like portable space heaters.

Fire officials want to remind residents that they will respond to an increase in structure fires until after the new year.  It's in large part due to people heating up their homes, once the fall and winter months come in.

Even though winter is behind us for the most part, the temperature is still low and keeping your home warm can sometimes prove challenging. 

With the recent cold wave, many overnight temperatures are falling far below freezing in the area.

Sunbeam is recalling about 34,000 Holmes-branded space heaters because they can spray hot oil and possibly cause household damage or injuries.
