The annual Share Your Christmas holiday drive-by food drive took place Friday, December 11. The annual event is a big boost for local food banks during the holiday season.

"Donations are usually in the neighborhood of 80,000 pounds," said Jocelyn Lantrip with the Food Bank. "So it's an important part of what we do during the holiday season."

This year things looked a bit different. People were asked to stay in their cars and wear masks while volunteers unloaded donations.

The need is more critical than ever this year, as the Food Bank is supporting a record numbers of families right now, and this drive helps to stock shelves all over the region in the months to come.

"We've been very fortunate to keep up with demand and the community has been generous, so we haven't had any issues with running out of food," Lantrip said. "We do worry about it in the long term; that's why we're trying to raise as much as we can."

I want to give a big shout out to all the organizers and participants for planning this important event with COVID-19 protocols and mitigation measures in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our State and ensure that those in need this season have one less thing to worry about. On behalf of the State of Nevada, Kathy and I want to extend our deepest thanks to all those who participated.”
