Day After Girl Struck by Foul Ball, Dodgers Study More Netting

Nevada Press Release:

Following the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nevada baseball standouts Jake Jackson, Owen Sharts and Dillan Shrum were awarded All-Mountain West honors as announced by the Mountain West conference. This is the second All-MW honor for Jackson and the first for Shrum and Sharts.

Each team was granted three honorees by the conference, as selected by each institution’s head coach.

Jackson was having one of his best seasons in the Silver & Blue, leading all of Nevada’s starting pitchers with a 3.00 ERA in four appearances. The junior finished second in the Mountain West with 24 innings pitched on the year, going at least six in three of his four starts. Jackson struck out 16 batters while only walking seven on the year, and earned his one win on the year against California Baptist University where he tossed 6.1 frames with three punchouts and only one earned run allowed.

Sharts came out with a strong start to the season in just his second year at Nevada, leading the MW conference with 32 strikeouts in four games. He finished with a 4.91 ERA and only walked seven batters. He pitched six shutout innings at Oregon in his second game of the year where he recorded eight strikeouts, and put up a career-high 11 punchouts against Hofstra in seven innings pitched the following week. Sharts only surrendered 27 hits in 22 innings pitched.

The lone position player to be awarded All-MW honors from Nevada, senior Dillan Shrum led the Wolf Pack with a .265 batting average, 13 hits, seven RBI, four doubles, four home runs and seven walks. His 23 home runs are the second-most among active MW players, and his three hits against Hofstra were tied for the most by a Nevada player in a game this season. While this is Shrum’s first All-MW award, he was named to the All-MW Tournament Team during the 2018 Mountain West Tournament.
