As we've been warning people all week, fireworks are illegal in Washoe County - and one homeowner found out why Thursday afternoon.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says a tenth of an acre fire sparked in a backyard in Cold Springs around 1:45 p.m.
While firefighters say it had potential to quickly spread, they were able to put it out quickly.
While no one was hurt, officials say its a good reminder to leave the fireworks to the professionals.
Don Pelt with the Pyramid Lake Emergency Response said someone started a ten by ten foot fire near Sutcliffe Drive as well on Thursday evening.
Crews were able to extinguish that fire quickly.
Washoe County residents can dispose off fireworks at any TMFPD Fire Station with no questions asked.Â
