Spooky season is upon us, and many thrift stores have a plethora of Halloween costumes to choose from.
For those getting ready for the ultimate spooky night of the year, Halloween is 11 days out and the window to find a costume is closing in. St. Vincent's has retail costumes selling for $6 to $20.
“It’s great to be able to offer this discount to families who maybe can’t afford a more expensive costume that way the children can still be in costume, and they can have fun and not only that but while you’re shopping at the St. Vincent’s thrift store or super thrift store you are supporting the St. Vincent’s dining room so you’re getting a great deal and you’re feeding someone at the same time,” said Lisa Ross, the Director of Community Outreach for Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.
But if you don't want to buy a costume, a thrift store can leave the door open for creativity.
“Say you don’t want to shop a regular costume, maybe you want to make your own you can find a dress and make yourself into belle or whatever you want to do, this store is an oasis you can find anything here,” said Ross.
Even though St. Vincent's is a thrift store with gently used items, Ross says they still have good quality costumes.
“We got a great donation last year after Halloween of brand-new costumes, so we held on to them just for this year and they’re out on the floor now ad if they’re not brand new they’ll be gently used and I great condition,” she said.
And if you're having trouble conjuring up a way to put your costume together, you can always ask staff for help.
“If you say to one of the staff, I want to be a tennis player this year they’ll help you find a tennis skirt they’ll help you find a racket we have it all,” said Ross.
St. Vincent's also takes donations seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their thrift stores and donation centers.
