The Sparks Planning Commission approved a conditional permit Thursday night for a new business which features a whole new type entertainment for our area. Smashin’ Good Time is actually the name of the business. There’s no “g” at the end of the word smashing, just an apostrophe.Just like its name, this business is a little bit different, and that's just what might make it a hit.
Ax throwing is a trend that's on the rise in the area. There are 3 competitive axe throwing facilities in the area. And a new one is set to be added in Sparks.
“Who doesn't like to throw a weapon right,” said Smashin’ Good Time owner Jay Peper. He is looking to open up a new axe throwing location on Baring Boulevard near Smith's Grocery Store. There will be 8 throwing lanes. But he's hoping to offer something else that's a little more destructive than axe throwing, two smash rooms.
“It's a controlled environment where you go in to break items like glass vases.computers, computer monitors, keyboards, anything that's past it's useful life that we can break,” said Peper. Participants are covered from head to toe, with a helmet and glass face shield, safety glasses, protective clothing and gloves to protect them from broken debris. And an added bonus? You can use weapons to destroy things. “You can use golf clubs, baseball bats, different types of wrenches, and crowbars,” said Peper.
Although a parent can bring their preteen or teen with them, these Smash rooms are for the adults, not kids. “It's an opportunity to blow off some steam in a controlled environment. Everyone’s got frustrations throughout the day; you've got frustrations in life. This is your opportunity for you to take out those frustrations,” said Peper.
Some are already relishing the opportunity to cut loose.“I think it would be fun. Right? Smash something. Relieve your stress it could be really fun,” said tourist and travel blogger Renan D'Abreau.
The owners are hoping to have snacks, sodas and you could even have the chance to drink a beer. Smashin’ Good Time is expected to get its business license in 11 days. They hope to open their doors sometime in December.
