A Berkeley man will spend ten years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to coerce a girl to record sexually explicit material.

The Department of Justice says 41-year-old Dustin Michael Joseph used social media to message an undercover officer, who he believed was a girl, to film content for a paid subscription service where a lot of content involves sexually related activities.

Joseph pleaded guilty in August 2023 to one-count of attempted coercion and enticement.

In addition to imprisonment, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, Joseph must register as a sex offender and keep the registration current.

Between March 14th of 2021 and June 24th of that same year, Joseph told the girl that he would pay her a couple of hundred of dollars per video, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada.

He also said he wanted to train her to be a prostitute so that she could work events in Reno and make money, which he wanted her to split with him, the release said.

On June 24th of 2021, Joseph traveled from Berkeley to Reno and paid for a hotel room in Carson City, so he and the girl could film a pornographic video and have sex.
