One person has died Friday afternoon from a shooting at 20 College Parkway in Carson City.
Sheriff's with The Carson City Sheriff's Office on scene have confirmed that a adult male has died and a male suspect has been taken into custody.Â
When Deputies and Paramedics arrived, they found a male lying at the doorway of a downstairs apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest. Â
First responders attempted life-saving aid measures but failed and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.Â
The deceased male was identified as a 41-year-old tenant of the apartment building who resided just upstairs from where the incident took place.Â
His name is pending notification of next of kin.
Deputies immediately secured the apartment area and took into custody the resident of the apartment where the shooting had occurred.Â
That resident, who’s name is being withheld at this time, told Deputies that an aggressive incident had taken place in the doorway of his apartment and that he shot the Deceased male.Â
He acknowledged that there was a .22 caliber pistol in the apartment. Â
Interviews of area residents, as well as the suspected shooter, have disclosed a recent pattern of erratic and aggressive behaviors by the Deceased male at and around the apartment complex.Â
This information was later confirmed by records at the Sheriff’s Office, including several calls for service where the Deceased was acting strangely or aggressive to people in the area.Â
Shortly after midnight the same day, December 24th, Deputies had responded to the Deceased’s apartment for similar but non-aggressive circumstances.Â
During their contact, Deputies had insufficient cause to take forced medical actions, but were sufficiently concerned to seize a recently purchased 12-gauge shotgun by the Deceased.
Later in the day after searches of both the apartment where the incident had taken place and the Deceased’s apartment, the resident who fired the fatal shot was released from custody without any immediate charges being filed.  Â
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident and asked that anyone with information to please contact the 24-hour Communications Center at 775-887-2677 (COPS) or the Investigations Division on Monday at 775-887-2500.
