A local man rang in his birthday with the wind at his back, riding his bicycle, but this wasn't any cyclist, and it wasn't any birthday.

Leon Malmed turned 86 on Sunday. He rode his bike as he often does, so much in fact that in August he traveled to Austria to claim his title as a world champion cyclist in the 85-and-over age group.

"When I am on a bike I feel so free and really it's freedom," said Malmed. "I feel good and somehow i was not prepared to bike but my body was and i feel so great."

Malmed is also a Holocaust survivor.
